How is E-MAX Onlay different from common resin fillings?

1. Strength and wear resistance

E-MAX Onlay is made of lithium disilicate ceramic, featuring exceptional hardness and toughness. It can withstand strong and long-term occlusal force from daily chewing, and hardly gets worn or broken. In contrast, common resin fillings have limited hardness. They will gradually wear down under continuous biting pressure and may crack after years of use.

2. Protection for damaged teeth

An E-MAX Onlay not only repairs tooth cavities but also fully or partially covers weakened or fractured cusps. It reinforces the overall structure of the damaged tooth and effectively stops the remaining tooth tissue from splitting. Resin fillings only fill the inner cavity. They cannot wrap or support fragile cusps, so the tooth still faces a high risk of fracture.

3.Aesthetic effect and color stability

The ceramic material of E-MAX Onlay has excellent light transmittance and natural luster, which can perfectly match the shade of surrounding natural teeth, presenting a highly lifelike look. Resin materials are prone to absorbing pigments from food, tea and coffee. They will gradually turn yellow or stain over time, greatly affecting the overall appearance.

4.Marginal fit and sealing performance

Produced with high-precision technology, E-MAX Onlay fits closely with the tooth edge permanently, forming a tight seal. It prevents bacteria and food debris from entering gaps. Resin will produce slight polymerization shrinkage after curing, creating tiny gaps at the edges. These gaps easily cause food impaction, gingival irritation and secondary tooth decay.

5.Service life and later maintenance

With standard daily care, an E-MAX Onlay can stay in good condition for more than a decade. It requires only regular dental check-ups. Resin fillings have a shorter service life, usually needing repair or replacement within 3 to 5 years. They also need more frequent oral cleaning to slow down discoloration and aging.
